Kalischer loved design - buildings, machinery, and patterns in nature. He photographed B.V. Doshi's work in India, worked for the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and had grants to photograph urban renewal in the US. In Berlin, he lived in the modern neighborhood called, The White City, which sparked his interest in design.
